Reflection on Michael's Global Scholars Project

I thought that Michael’s Final Global Scholars Capstone project was extremely well done. He explained his process and end goal for his grant proposal project, which entailed asking for the funds for Reading Partners to buy children’s books that focused on protagonists of underrepresented backgrounds, mainly people of color and varying religious faiths in detail. Michael was one of two grant proposal projects that were given full funding. Even now after he was awarded the funds, he is working to adapt as this pandemic is changing how his project was originally going to proceed. I think that this project is extremely important especially as there is a growing population of Asian Americans in our community. As an Asian American, I rarely ever saw representation in any form of media, but especially so in literature. Seeing someone that looks like or has a similar background to you can be so impactful and encourage others to strive to have the same success or simply picture themselves in a happier place.

I think that Michael was so successful in his pursuit because of how deeply connected he is with Reading Partners and the amount of time and effort that he places in the organization outside of his time for this project. He eloquently explained his process and adapted well to an online presentation and revealed his knowledge on the subject of representation in literature. Congratulations Michael for such an amazing project!
