Masauko Chipembere

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of meeting Masauko Chipembere, a Poly alum, and learning about his amazing work for WIN Malawi and permaculture. Masauko Chipembere is a Malawian-American singer-songwriter, who was born in Los Angeles while his parents were in political exile. His music is a unique mixture of South African traditional music with jazz, folk, funk, hip-hop, and reggae. Since starting his music career as a freshman at Poly, he has shared stages with Stevie Wonder, Queen, Mary J. Blige, Black Thought of the Roots, and many more. Furthermore, he was chosen as the face and voice of Guayaki Yerba Mate because throughout his career he has helped to foster a global sense of regeneration and regrowth. On top of that, Mr. Chipembere truly embodies this year’s theme of trailblazing through his work as the co-director of the Malawian Women's Initiative Network, a non-profit that funds educational and permaculture projects. Having watched his amazing music videos promoting permaculture around the world, it was an amazing experience to be able to hear from him firsthand about both of his incredible projects!
